Information We Process

Depending on the features a user chooses to use, Backfield may process the following categories of information:

• Account information, such as a name, email address, username, or athlete profile information
• Photos and videos captured through the camera or selected by the user
• Images or video containing an athlete’s face, body, posture, movement, or athletic activity
• Body measurements or physical characteristics voluntarily provided by the user or estimated from submitted media
• Athletic performance information, including movement patterns and derived performance metrics
• Fitness and activity information, such as steps, distance, speed, sprint activity, workload, and other performance indicators
• Weight or body-composition information voluntarily entered by the user
• Food photos, food descriptions, and nutrition-related information
• App preferences and settings
• Leaderboard information submitted or authorized by the user

Backfield only processes information necessary to provide the features selected by the user.

3D Avatar and Physical Form Analysis

Backfield allows users to submit or capture photos and videos for 3D avatar generation and athletic analysis.

Depending on the feature used, Backfield may analyze:

• Body position and posture
• Joint and limb positions
• Movement patterns and sequences
• Athletic technique and form
• Estimated physical proportions
• Speed, acceleration, distance, sprint activity, workload, and other athletic performance indicators
• Other movement or performance characteristics derived from submitted or recorded media

These inputs may be used to generate a 3D athlete avatar, athletic form analysis, performance reports and scorecards, Athlete Points and other performance scores, training insights, movement visualizations, and athlete profile features.

Backfield's athletic metrics and AI-generated results are estimates intended for athletic training, performance analysis, and informational purposes. They should not be interpreted as medical diagnoses or professional medical advice.

Camera, Photo, and Video Data

When a user chooses to capture or upload a photo or video, Backfield processes that media only for the features requested by the user.

Depending on the feature, media may be processed for 3D avatar creation, pose estimation, movement tracking, athletic form analysis, performance metric estimation, highlight creation, and food and nutrition analysis.

Backfield requests access to the camera or photo library only when necessary for a feature initiated by the user.

AI Processing and Third-Party Services

Backfield may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, cloud computing, and other third-party processing services to provide certain features.

Depending on the feature selected by the user, data transmitted securely for processing may include athlete photos, athlete videos, images containing a user's face or body, movement and pose data, athletic performance data, body measurements or estimated physical characteristics, food photos, food descriptions, and nutrition-related context.

This information is transmitted only when necessary to provide the requested feature, such as generating a 3D avatar, analyzing athletic movement, calculating performance metrics, or estimating nutrition information.

Backfield does not sell athlete photos, videos, body data, movement data, or performance information to advertisers or data brokers.

Where third-party service providers process user data on behalf of Backfield, they are used only for the services necessary to operate the relevant Backfield feature and are expected to maintain appropriate privacy and security protections.

Nutrition Analysis

When a user scans a meal using the camera or uploads a food image, Backfield may process food photos, food descriptions entered by the user, and optional nutrition context related to the meal.

This information is used to generate estimated calories, macronutrients, and nutrition insights.

Nutrition estimates generated by Backfield are informational estimates and may not be exact.

User Consent and Control

Users choose whether to use features that require camera access, photo access, video uploads, body or movement analysis, 3D avatar generation, or AI-based analysis.

Backfield requests appropriate permission before accessing protected device resources.

Where user data must be transmitted to a third-party AI or processing service, Backfield provides appropriate disclosure and consent mechanisms before transmission when required.

Users may decline optional scanning or AI analysis features and continue using other available features of the app.

Leaderboards

Users may choose to participate in Backfield leaderboard features.

Depending on the specific challenge or competition, a leaderboard may display selected athletic performance scores, activity results, progress metrics, or other information described to the user before participation.

Leaderboard participation is optional. Users may leave a leaderboard or challenge according to the controls provided within the app.

Data Usage

Information processed by Backfield may be used to provide requested app features, generate 3D avatars, analyze athletic movement and form, calculate or estimate performance metrics, generate athlete reports and insights, provide nutrition estimates and insights, maintain athlete profiles and progress history, operate optional leaderboard and challenge features, and maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve Backfield.

Backfield does not use athlete data for unrelated advertising purposes.

Data Retention and Deletion

Retention depends on the feature used.

Some information may be processed temporarily and deleted after the requested analysis is completed. Information that users choose to save to an athlete profile, performance history, nutrition log, 3D avatar profile, or other persistent feature may be retained so that it remains available to the user.

Users may delete eligible content through available in-app controls or contact Backfield to request deletion of account-associated data.

Deleting the app from a device does not necessarily delete information that has been saved to a Backfield account or stored on Backfield's servers.

Subscriptions

Certain Backfield features, including some 3D avatar generation, athletic form analysis, advanced performance metrics, and nutrition analysis features, may require a paid subscription or other purchase.

Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled through the user's Apple Account subscription settings.

Children and Youth Athletes

Backfield may be used in connection with youth sports. Where parental or guardian consent is required by applicable law or by a Backfield program, club, camp, school, or partner arrangement, Backfield requires the appropriate authorization before collecting or processing information from a child.

Parents or legal guardians may contact Backfield regarding privacy or deletion requests involving a minor's information.

Security

Backfield uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information during transmission, processing, and storage.

No electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
